FERMA AT WORK

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) today blocked the epileptic, motor damaging and ruined road of Dillion Street. Dillion Street, a major road and the longest street in Kirikiri town. From top view, it connects with a T- junction to Okoduwa Street which links to Kirikiri industrial estate and out of Kirikiri town to Mazamaza environs.

The road was last constructed in 2007. In a subsequent post by one of our readers, pictures of the gruesome status of the decapitated road were revealed. People complained so much and even began to tackle the government with their words. The local and state government was not left out of the collaring.

FERMA, with their famous slogan “Men at work” Were really at work with their caterpillars. Machines were in place to dig and soothe the road. The road is so bad that heavy stones used to fill the road during the last construction are now visible. Popular transportation system, Keke Napep and okada riders that ply the road now charge double the former price. To cross that road when rain falls, they don’t bother to charge because they cannot pass the road for they fear that their vehicle might be damaged.

The men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Nigerian navy, Nigerian police Force, were on ground to ensure law and order pertaining the brief mending of the road. Prior to the construction, the road was technically blocked with only one lane functioning for ongoing and forthcoming vehicles respectively. This caused a long queue all the way down to Mazamaza and also from Dillion to the link bridge. Movement pattern is one vehicle after the other.

Passersby were also affected by the new development and the commercial activities like banks, bonded terminals, restaurants and business outlets were also affected. Speculations believe that rehabilitating the Dillion road has been contracted but it seems that all the equipment’s used were not branded.

Further developments will be much appreciated and directed to the right authorities when that sad road finally becomes a happy one.
