SENATE PRESIDENT PRAISES FLYING EAGLES OVER VICTORY

Senate President, David Mark, Monday lauded the Flying Eagles of Nigeria over their victory at the 2015 African Youth Championships in Senegal on Sunday.

The Nigerian under 20 national team defeated host Senegal by a lone goal at the 45,000 capacity Leoppold Sedar Senghor Stadium in Dakar on Sunday to win the trophy for the 7th time.

KENYAN DENNIS KIMETTO SETS MARATHON WORLD RECORD

"From what I saw today, times are coming down and down. So if not today, then tomorrow," the 29-year-old Kenyan said. "Maybe next time we'll get 2:01."

Qatar’s Femi Ogunode won the Asian Games 100 metres gold in a new continental record time of 9.93 seconds despite wet conditions in Incheon on Sunday, AFP reports.

NFL BOSS APOLOGIZES FOR VIOLENCE SCANDALS

The National Football League boss has said he "got it wrong" in dealing with the violence scandals that have plagued the American football league.
In his first public statement in a week, Roger Goodell apologised for his mistakes and pledged to implement new personal conduct policies.

ARGENTINE STADIUM TO BE NAMED AFTER POPE

Argentine football club San Lorenzo has announced it will name its new stadium after Pope Francis.
The pontiff has supported the Buenos Aires-based team since he was a boy.
San Lorenzo, one of the oldest teams in the Argentine Football Association, is planning to build a new stadium in Boedo, a working-class neighbourhood in the Argentine capital.
The new venue will be built on land seized from the club during the time of military rule from 1976-1983.

St Joseph Catholic Church in a fierce football match lashes St. Matthew Catholic Church Amukoko, Lagos 2 – 0 to clinch the prestigious Arch. Bishop Adewale Martin Cup. The match was held at the Prison Barracks stadium in Kirikiri town. A Handsome cash prize of NGN 300000 was attached to the Trophy.

St. Joseph Parish competed with all parishes in the entire Apapa Deanery to win the cup and they have qualified for the Lagos State Stage of the competition where if they win, will compete in the National level.
