KIRIKIRI ALL-STARS WINS TROPHY

The tournament held at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) sports ground in Festac town was no doubt a successful one as Kirikiri all-stars team won this year’s edition of the feisty tournament.
The team started from the preliminary stage in group D with strong teams such as Fire 11 all-stars, Ajangbadi all-stars and Veterans all-stars. Kirikiri all-stars drew with Fire11 all-stars 0:0 in the first match, the second match with Ajangbadi all-stars ended with a win 2:1 and the last match with veterans ended up with yet another victory 1:0.

The knock out stage was tough and only those who trained extra were considered the best. There was no beating around the bush as Kirikiri all-stars dismantled oriental all-stars football club 3:0 to qualify for the semifinals. Ajifas all-stars dared to struggle with Kirikiri all-stars but ended up packing their bag and baggages as they were peeped 1:0 to qualify for the finals.

The final match was challenging as Kirikiri all-stars met again with Fire11 all-stars that had been in the same group with them during the preliminary group stage. This was considered a fierce rematch. Frie11 all-stars had already beaten the intolerant Festac all-stars team who were the host of the competition to qualify for the finals.
The final match between Kirikiri all-stars and fire11 all-stars ended 1:0 with a last minute goal scored by Joe, a super sub who came into the game in the second half to clinch the title for Kirikiri all-stars as the best team in Amuwo Odofin local government area.

This is the third time Kirikiri all-stars participated in the competition.

The coach of the team, Coach Lawrence expressed his joy after his team lifted the 150,000 cup saying that they deserved it because they trained day and night. The assistant coach, Coach Mohammed said that the team was in one spirit as they trained categorically also with hardwork and experience to win the trophy. Chinedu Maribe, who is the president of the Kirikiri all-stars, encouraged the team to work harder that the sky is just their starting point.

The cup was brought into Kirikiri town at night on November 11th 2013 and it was celebrated by the coaches and team members and with the fans of the team. The fans danced and sang songs of victory.

“We are prepared and ready to win next year’s tournament as it is now our birth right”, swanked one of the team members.

Upgrade is inevitable in Kirikiri town. Go all-stars! Kirikiri town supports you.

Our motto remains…Upgrading Standards.
