…a buffalo. In his astonishment, he almost toppled from his perch, but he kept his gaze on that buffalo. At length, he saw her stop and take off the buffalo skin. She folded it neatly, and hid it inside a clump of bush nearby. Then she walked between some trees

and was soon out of sight!

Shrieks of human chatter and laughter now reached Olukosi’s ears. They were female voices merry making in the deep forest. It was all he could do to stop himself from jumping down from the Obobo tree and running away home. He had to fortify himself with his spells and incarnations. Then, quietly, he climbed down from his perch and crept toward the clump of bush where the woman had hidden the buffalo skin. He put his hand there, and searched frantically for it, all the time hearing merry chatter and peals of laughter. When his groping hand found it, he pulled it away and retreated fast. He did not stop running until he entered his house with his quarry.

On reaching home, Olukosi quickly brought in the ladder, placed it against the mouth of the loft and climbed up carrying the buffalo skin with him. He quickly stowed it deep in that loft, away from prying eyes. He was not successful in that, however, someone had followed his every movement, but had moved away before he climbed down and removed the ladder.

Calmer now and better composed, Olukosi went into his compound to greet his wife, his mother and other relatives, who lived there with him. He then retired to the verandah in front of the house to relax and to ponder over the events of the day. He tried to make sense out of them all.

It was true that Ifa had warned that he would meet a stranger supernatural person in the forest, but he had not expected to see a woman transform into a buffalo right before his eyes and then back again and she was not…To be continued on Tuesday.
