COMFORT OBOH MINI DEPOT GOES ABLAZE – NO CASUALTIES

Residents on Comfort Oboh Street, Kirikiri town, Apapa, Lagos woke up from their sleep in high weekend spirits without foreknowledge of what would befall them in the next hour.

As many relaxed in the comfort of their homes even without electricity, many others were out there performing duties while others were either in their workshops, stalls, factories, etc. doing one productive thing or the other.

Meanwhile in a garage directly opposite Abdullahi street fire raged. The fire had started few hours to noon and residents became aware when thick smoke filled the air accompanied with distress sounds of sirens hither and thither.

Kirikiri news gathered that the large garage was mainly used as a mini depot for oil products and also served as a spot where oil products were often trans-loaded into tankers.

While undertaking the regular pattern of trans-loading diesel from one tanker to the other, the pump pulled out forcefully and the spillage from the pumps nozzle caught up with a running generator and burst into flames consuming the tanker, the recipient tanker and other loaded tanks in the garage. The fire went wild and ravished some sections of the window blinds and roofing’s of two building beside the garage but no casualty was reported.

It was however not clear whether the generator was the one used in pumping the diesel because there was a welding activity going on in that same garage at that moment. It was a volunteer who vaulted the fence to open the gate for the fire service team.

With prompt intervention the Techno oil, Fatgbems and Lagos State fire service team converged at the fire raging venue to battle the fire. They were however successful.

The owner of the property was not available at press time.

“We thank God no life was lost and also that it wasn't petrol, it would have been worse than this” a resident exclaimed

The fire fighters succeeded in totally quenching the fire at 6:30 pm.

This should serve as a deterrent to other roadside oil product dealers. Safety and carefulness is advised to avoid loss of lives and properties.
