Late Dr. Sylvester Onuagwasiobi was
described as a man of few words; a man who couldn't miff a fly instead would
give attention to detail for one if sick or incapacitated, a man of valor, a
listener, a father and a grandfather.
His death was controversial; many believed that a name was behind it. But the pastor made a statement in the course of his sermon titled ‘the last appointment’. He said that everyone must conform to the last appointment and that something must kill somebody. This type of appointment cannot be rescheduled.
The women of St. Paul’s Anglican Church
held their own special service of songs for the deceased before the Christian
wake-keep service began at 6 pm.
Prayer of comfort was being rendered for
the family. They also prayed for an innocuous journey as they traveled for the
final interment ceremony. The Lagos Anglican Guild of Stewards was present.
They put on their customized cap and T-shirt which also carried their emblem
and logo. In a statement issued to
Kirikiri news “Mr. Sylvester was a member of this guild he belonged to group C,
my own group. St. Paul’s Anglican Church is the Head Quarters of this guild and
all the branches under this guild were present to pay their last respect. He
was a jovial man, not aggressive, soft and prayerful.” explained Mrs. Bernice
Aguanze as she took down the record of attendance.
The Vicar of St. Paul’s Anglican Church
announced that the church will not fold its arms to be of assistance to the
family of a dedicated man. “The church will give a fully air conditioned bus to
those who would travel for the burial to be held at Imo State and also one of
the priests will follow them on the journey.” said the Vicar.
The family of Late Mr. Sylvester
Onuagwasiobi were present. His only son Mr. Ikechukwu was not in the right
frame of mind to speak to Kirikiri News due to the several protocols that he
and his family had to observe after the service. His bereaved mum was strong
but cried at some point while the service of song lasted.
He was a well-known personality in Kirikiri
town. He was nicknamed ‘Short doctor’ because of his height. He had a pharmacy
shop on Cardoso Street. In his many years of experience he has been a life
support medically to many people of Kirikiri town. His prescriptions were
accurate and he always had the rarest of drugs in stock in his shop. He will be
missed greatly.
The event ended at 8 pm. The burial will
take place on 7th February. He was aged 65. May his Soul rest in Peace.
