Although hospitalized in Abuja, Nigeria she wasn’t responding to treatment. She was then taken abroad. Weeks after, prof. Dora was flown to India for cancer related ailment treatment where she was eventually declared dead by her family members through the Anambra state government.

Condolence messages from Nigeria’s President Dr. Ebele Jonathan and many top government officials have long been sent to her family members. The first lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan said she was a strong diligent woman and she will definitely be missed by Nigerians.

Professor Dora Akunyili made tremendous reforms in the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and control (NAFDAC) during her tenure and did not fail to extend such reforms during her term as the Minister of Information. Even when she retired to face politics proper, she had a magnificent plan and purpose if she had won the election for her senatorial district (Anambra North).

May her Soul rest in Peace!

“There is no one who does good in Nigeria that ends well except those who have been there before, which will never die. Na wa for Nigeria ooo” an aged woman said.
