St Joseph
Catholic Church in a fierce football match lashes St. Matthew Catholic Church Amukoko,
Lagos 2 – 0 to clinch the prestigious Arch. Bishop Adewale Martin Cup. The
match was held at the Prison Barracks stadium in Kirikiri town. A Handsome cash
prize of NGN 300000 was attached to the Trophy.
St.
Joseph Parish competed with all parishes in the entire Apapa Deanery to win the cup
and they have qualified for the Lagos State Stage of the competition where if
they win, will compete in the National level.
“The
match wasn’t easy. As a team we put in much effort. I am very happy to win this
cup for my parish and I am proud to be a footballer. I thank God” Ikechukwu said
when speaking to Kirikiri News.

The St.
Joseph Parish priest who is from Kenya, Rev. Father Joseph Kioko, presented the trophy
to the captain.
“I wish
my team success in the State Level and I know they will conquer to get to
the National stage” Rev. Father Kioko uttered in ecstasy.
The teams
who participated were St. Vincent Parish Coconut, St. Charles Parish Ajegule, St.
Joseph Parish Kirikiri town, St. Mary’s Parish Ajegule and St. Matthew parish Amukoko.
The Arch. Bishop Adewale Martins Cup is a football competition played by all the catholic
churches in Nigeria. It has three phases: Deanery, State and national stage. The
winners of the deanery stage will compete with other deanery winners in the state
stage. The winner of the state stage will compete with other state winners for the
national stage. The National stage of the Arch bishop Adewale Martins cup is worth
NGN 3000000.
Maximum
support and motivation was given to the team by the Catholic Men Organization Chairman
Emmanuel Onyeze, Sports Chairman Mr. joseph Agu and Mr. Iyke Anuku.
The
CMO hosted the event gallantly.
