SOT HOARDS P.M.S

SOT filling station which is the first and only gas station in Kirikiri town decided to hoard their Premium Motor Spirit PMS, known as fuel in Nigeria. This decision is a popular decision taken by every management of gas stations in the country. This is due
to the idea that many people will need the product couple with the fact that power supply isn’t constant in this part of the world.

Tonight was the beginning of the inevitable end of the year queue and it started in Kirikiri town this year. Although the price set by government is being followed officially, but the management, through its staff at the pump tend to increase the price at will. Ruthless deductions are being made on customer’s money. When a customer requests for NGN500 worth of fuel which is about 5.4 liters, he is given NGN450 and sometimes NGN430, which is about 4.1 liters. They do this with authority. It was reported that one of their staffs recently bought a new car from this trade.

Resident began their queue in an orderly manner without being told immediately it was noticed that more than 150 people wanted a particular commodity all at once and at the same time. Only two pumps were functioning for petrol, while the rest pumped diesel and kerosene.

“I have been here since 5:30pm and I haven’t bought fuel” a resident said in an angry tone. People said the queue started at 5:00pm and didn't end until 9:30pm. The massive in flock of people purchasing fuel was tremendous. However, SOT is known to close at 8:00pm but because of the rush, they worked overtime until 10:00pm.

The long queue which contained about 75 gallons of different sizes and shapes at each pump with their owners beside them had men, women, youths and children in it. The men expressed their dominance by oppressing those on the queue in order to buy before them. This almost resulted into a fight between a girl and one man. The men acted at the detriment of the law which says, first come first serve; perhaps this law is not applicable in the gas station.

98% of the population of Kirikiri town has a generator set. This is a compulsory property regardless of the size. Fuel is the most consumed commodity among residents.
We all know that the end of the year is fast approaching and many will like to show off their ostentatious character. This is a trait associated among the rich and poor alike in Nigeria. It might not be same all over the world. Let us take it easy, there are still other years to come.

The management of sot filling station should make fuel available for residents. Do we need to go to another town in search of fuel?

Our motto still remains... Upgrading Standards.
