KARIMU STREET

Karimu Street starts at the center and ends at the northern part of Kirikiri town. It shares a border with the Nigerian prison service which ends almost at the middle of the street. Karimu Street is about 650 meters long. This street
begins beside the gate of Nigerian prison service and ends into an intersection with Alekotile Street.

Karimu Street is well noted for its night life. At night, the street becomes twice as populated as it is during the day. This street is also known for its high life - Money is being spent on drink, smoke and women. There are several bars on the street that encourages night life such as Amsterdam bar and a host of others. Octopus restaurant is a known for its good African delicacies; God’s time restaurant is the most popular restaurant and also one of the landmarks of the street. These restaurants operate 20 hours a day.

Karimu street is mainly a commercial street. A market extension - which was earlier made to be a night market but turned out to function 24 hours of the day. You will be welcomed into the street with numerous business outlets such as a bank and several shops. There are about 11 churches on Karimu Street but one is most notable and is the oldest church on that street, it is the Christian community church of Nigeria. There is also a mosque on Karimu Street.

Asara motel is another landmark of Karimu Street and it is a place where sex workers operate without conscience and with liberty. They pull and drag anyone coming into the place, regardless of your social standing. It is believed that anyone entering there is definitely going to satisfy his sexual urge. There is no sign post to indicate its name and existence but the vertical standing rectangle door speaks for itself as the entrance to the den of sexual pleasure. Music is played till dawn and it is also a bar and a viewing center.

The Action People’s Congress (A.P.C) ward 4 secretariat, meeting and conference room is located on Karimu Street. The Ataiyese of Kirikiri town lives on Karimu Street.

Due to the recent oil depots fabrication along the coast of Kirikiri town, Karimu Street serves as the entrance of all trucks coming to buy oil products.

Karimu Street links to other streets such as: Shokumbi, Johnson, Amuda, Agunbiade, Alekotile, Alloh close, Magbesa, Ikudehinbor, Ilaje close, Ajanlekoko. However, it is not the street with the most streets attached to it neither is it the longest street in Kirikiri town that a lot of people confuse it to be.

There are about 30 buildings, over 37 business outlets. About 2,200 people live in Karimu Street. Most of the buildings there are bungalows and few storey buildings.
