KIRIKIRI BIGGEST HOTEL LOCKED BY GOVERNMENT

Juliana hotel is located in the north-western part of Kirikiri town. It is one of the landmarks of Johnson Street. It is the biggest hotel in Kirikiri town. It has about 100 rooms meant for accommodation, lodging, meeting, restaurant and bar.
The name Juliana hotel is a popular name among residents of Kirikiri town. It has so many nick names such as; big house, uptown, JH, ashewohouse. In its capacity, it has made Kirikiri town popular in Lagos state. Fun seekers, tourists are among its customers. Juliana hotel is one of the oldest hotels in Kirikiri town. This hotel is also a home for sex workers. It runs a local club where music is played till dawn.

Although, residents complain about the noise, yet, after all complains they relax, after all they are neighbors which have lived together for a long time and are used to it.

Last week the Land Use Charge Office visited and dropped a Notice of Default saying that the property is now a subject of default due to the failure and refusal of the owners /occupiers to pay its land use charge. This statement is provided under the section 9 & 17 of the land use charge law 2001.

Juliana hotel is therefore liable to distrain and/or sealing- which has taken place -in accordance with the combined provision of section 40 of the Lagos State Revenue Administration Law 2005 and or R.I (C) of the Magistrate Court Of Law 2009 and further action may be taken to render this property to the subject of an order for sale or liable for receivership until all charges have been paid.

If the management attempts to remove the notice of default labeled on their gate or the padlock, they have committed a serious offence punishable under the Laws of Lagos State. It is only an authorized official of the Lagos State Ministry Finance (Land Use Charge) that can remove it only when all charges have been paid.

In spite of this notice, the management of Juliana hotel still operates with their gates locked with chains and padlocks. They still go about their regular business activities. "oh my God, what kind of government wants to take away my fun" a customer said in agony.

"which kind thing be this, na wa for government o, I no go do December"? a prostitute exclaimed infuriated.

"my dream of making Juliana hotel a church is coming to past" a close neighbor said joyfully.

Our motto still remains... Upgrading Standards.
