STORY SERIES
..It was my father who covered up all
inadequacy and without anyone knowing it, provided the things required before
he, Pa Lapite, got his wife. In spite of my father’s assistance and support,
the ingrate was to betray him later as he failed to let my father
into his
plans for a second wife until things had again gone out of hand. Not minding
his attitude, my father still helped him. According to Baba Fatokun, my father
belonged to those set of men who could even give their own lives for their friends
sake. And there was no doubting that fact, for, my father when he was alive,
had often reiterated that one should never withdraw ones service from anyone in
need, be he a friend or foe. His argument was that no one could ever be sure of
where his own help will come from in moments of need and that God does not
discriminate in his supply of good things to man.
Perhaps he was wrong in holding such
beliefs. It is easy to see a great difference in the level of progress achieved
by the good and devilish. One discovers that most times, the wealth of the
dishonest and the wicked are only means of lesson to others as it never last
while the good, no matter, his travails would always come out triumphantly.
Besides,
it seemed great folly allowing oneself to be used and dumped by ingrates all
the time. Experience has shown that even rain that comes directly from God
brings different fortune to different people depending on what God himself wishes
for everyone. For some, what others regard as showers of blessing can be
showers of disaster as the roof gets blown off. Or come to think of it. Is it
not the same rain that gives sugarcane its sweetness also the one that gives
bitter leaf its bitterness?
Nevertheless, I still agree with my
father that God is always the best judge since two wrongs can never make a right.
It was the same thing the man I was following was trying to point out too.
“Never pay evil with evil”, he had
stressed. To him, God will always defend and fight for the pure hearted, bringing
him good yields and bountiful harvest even though at times it could be after he
must have left the scene. And the wicked too, no matter how smart he could be,
would be ensnared in his own wickedness.
Perhaps,…. To be continued on Tuesday.
