A young man who hailed from a
community in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, and identified
as Moses Uzoma had reportedly drowned at Imo River which serves as boundary
between Abia and Rivers States.
Uzoma’s drowning came less than three months when another
young man whose name was given as Ugonna Ike drowned in the same river while
excavating sand.
What Uzoma went to do in the river before he drowned could
not be immediately ascertained, but his body was found floating in the river
some days later.
A source said that the body of the victim was later buried
at the bank of the river, after his immediate family members were contacted in
conformity with the customs of his people.
In June, Ike, 20, a native of Uratta, in Isiala Ngwa North
Local Government Area also drowned in the same river while excavating sand, as
every effort made to rescue him failed.
