It
has been an uncompromising principle from the onset that articulated trucks
intending to lift any kind of oil products from the depots in Kirikiri town must
make use of Karimu road as its entrance and when loaded, exits through Cardoso
road. This sagacious law has since been upheld except for one special occasion
when the Karimu culvert was closed down for complete reconstruction.
At
12:05am, in the premature 60 minutes of Wednesday, three trucks belonging to GB
& Jemma Petroleum, under the management of one Mrs. Labake broke
another truck parked behind the other two trucks |
speed
limits in convoy and almost knocked down some pedestrians along Cardoso road as they headed for one of the illegal oil depot speculated to be Bakare Depots to lift
a specific oil product when they were halted by a tipper offloading granite to
be used for the completion of the other end of Cardoso road.
The CDA2
task force Chief Mr. Femi and the CDA2 Chief Security Officer who were on duty that night received the alarm
and intercepted the trucks ordering them to return back to the queue as other
trucks did but also charged them to pay a fine of NGN 15000 each for breaking
the traffic law and boycotting community levy. Mrs. Labake pleaded and even
knelt down begging but they stood their ground not to compromise standard and
further threatened to call the DPO if they don’t comply.

However,
Kirikiri News gathered that the CSO and the Task force Chief connived with Mrs.
Labake in a corner to allow the trucks pass. In a short while the three trucks
that had already obeyed orders to turn back, reversed and headed straight to their intended
destination – the illegal oil depot.
It was
speculated that the CSO and Task force Chief must have collected the sum of NGN
450000 as fine or as kind for letting them go against the rule. Kirikiri News
also gathered that it was because of the media presence at the scene that
brought about the ranting and sermonizing which was eventually out-and-out duplicity.
