STORY SERIES
…Do you really know who she
is? Asked the first woman”
“What’s wrong with your
eyes? Don’t you know Adia’s daughter? What’s her name now?” Asked the other
one.
The door had by now been
opened by a man who stood at the entrance holding it. Someone cried from within.
“Help me! Help me!”
“Come in quick or I’ll lock
you out,” said the man to the women. “Do you think it is safe to stand there?
Just what are you looking at?”
The women entered and
closed the door. But before the door was shut Eta heard Tesa’s voice shouting
for help. She also heard the voice of a man shutting her up, less sounded as if
someone had put his hand over her mouth.
Eta banged at the door with
her two little fists. As he banged she cried out. “Open the door! Help! Help! They
are going to kill her.”
The door opened suddenly
and a strong hand dragged Eta in, she was flung to the bare floor. She hit the
floor hard and felt much pain. But she did not cry from the pain. She had seen Tesa
in the corner. She was weeping. The man was holding a weep in his hand.
Eta jumped up ran to Tesa
and embraced her. They both cried.
“What do you want here you
wicked girl?” asked the older woman. Do you want to spoil my business as your
mother did? Let me tell you, I am going to take this girl far away, far from
this town. She is going to live with us and we are going to take care of her. She
is going to make us rich as she has made your mother rich.”
“But she did not make my
mother rich,” answered Eta. “How could she?”
“You go and ask your mother,”
said the younger woman.
“Stop, all of you” shouted
the man. “Do you think we've got the whole day? Don’t you know that this is a dangerous business? If we are caught we’ll all be in prison for many long years.
Now that we have another little devil here what do we do with her? We cannot
take them both along and we cannot let her go now that she knows who you are.”
“She does not know who we
are,” said the younger woman.
“I know,” shouted Eta. “I
know you both.”
“In that case then you must
die,” said the older woman. “We can’t live you alive to tell the story to your
mother, who will tell the police.”
She turned to the man and
said, “You will have to kill her here and then lock up the door. We shall then
go away.”
“Do you think it is easy to
kill a person?” asked the man. “I am not a murderer. That is not part of our
bargain. You will have to look for someone else to kill her. This thing is
becoming too dangerous. I am getting out. You can do whatever you like with the
girls.” He picked up his gown and was trying to wear it.
“You can’t get out; you can’t”
said the older woman holding on to the gown. “We are in this together. We shall
sink or swim together.”
“Leave my gown, you old
witch.” The man said.
“You call me a witch, you
notorious thief,” answered the woman. “The police have been looking for you, you.
