STORY SERIES
…on duty asked her to
report after six hours.
Adia came back home hoping to
see little Tesa but she was not there. Adia now knew that something bad had
happened to Tesa but she could not tell what it was.
She went out again. She was
nearly mad with sorrow. She entered many houses asking if anyone had
seen Tesa.
No one had seen her. Adia shouted on top of her voice. Many neighbors came out and
joined her to search for Tesa. They searched and searched. Still there was no
trace of Tesa. No one had seen her. Two or three people said, they saw Tesa end
Eta walking hand in hand to school in the morning. That was all.
Adia did not go to her shop
that day. The shop remained closed because even the servants had joined her in
looking for Tesa.
When Eta left school that
afternoon she went to her mother’s shop. She also expected to see Tesa there.
But the shop was not opened and Eta wondered why it was so. She ran home.
Her mother had gone out
when she came home. The two servants had gone out too. Only her little brother
and her little sister were home. She learnt from them that Tesa had not come
home since morning and that their mother and the servants had gone out to look
for her.
Eta was sad. She even wept.
She threw down her bag, took off her school dress and changed into another
dress. She told her brother and sister nothing. She just went out. She too was
going to follow the route to her school.
As she went past a house
she saw two women. One stood outside, the other was coming out. The one outside
was saying to the other. We must hurry up and remove the girl from that house.
If they find her there we shall be in trouble.”
Eta thought that the little
girl must be Tesa. She had no reason to think so. She watched the women as they
went in a hurry. She followed them from a distance. The women did not look
back. They did not know that she was following them. They just went.
Eta had to run many times
because the women were too fast for her. If she did not run she would lose
them. They walked a long distance and eta was beginning to get tired. She
wondered how far they still had to go. She did not mind however because she would
go anywhere to find Tesa.
She remembered that she had
told no one where she was going and that her mother might be worrying about her
too. But she could not go back. If she did she would lose the women and lose
the chance of finding Tesa.
The women still hurried on
Eta followed them. They did not look back. Eta did not look back too. They were
sweating. Eta was sweating also.
At last the women came to a
house. It was a long house with rooms set in a row. Each room opened onto the
street. They knocked at one door. While they were waiting to be answered, one
of them looked back and saw a little girl coming towards them.
“See that little girl,” She
said to the other woman, “Haven’t I seen her before.”
“Yes, you are right”
answered the other. “I think I know her but what could she be doing here so far
away from home?”…To be continued on Thursday.
