I SEE A BIG CLOUD HANGING OVER NIGERIA – ELDER STATESMAN MBAZULIKE AMAECHI (PART 1)

Chief Mbazuluike Amaechi, one of the five surviving founding fathers of our dear country Nigeria speaks with residual wisdom. A grand old man of the swinging First Republic where he served as Minister for six years, his recipe for peace in Nigeria is
bound to elicit emotion and controversy. Past military leaders and their collaborators, the governors and the judiciary according to him constitute a clog in the nation’s wheel of progress. But he singles out the former military leaders for a clean sweep, for the rebirth of the nation.

Struggling in deep nostalgia over the slump in national growth and stability since the military happened on the scene in 1966, Amaechi told Sunday Sun in his house at Ukpor, Anambra state, that the Jerry Rawlings option in Ghana is most apposite to the current situation.

Mbazulike also speaks on the key national issues, expressing disgust for the presidential system of government currently in place. He refers to the Parliamentary system of government which is less bogus. He regrets that despite his age and political trajectory, governors of his geopolitical zone spite him.

Mbazulike takes a deep peep into year 2015, and concludes that ‘a big cloud is hanging over Nigeria’. He reviews the pre-independence days and throws light on the ignoble role and manipulative tendencies of the British authorities who paved way for Northern domination of the country.

He dismisses suggestion that the Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency have been of immense benefit to the South east, reeling out investment expenditure figures of the six geopolitical zones to support his stand. In the profiling, the South east takes the rear with NGN72 Billion while the North central takes the lead with NGN495 Billion. He analyses the political parties in Nigeria, concluding that the ALL Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, which prides itself as an Igbo party, is sheer nonsense because it will lead the people to nowhere. He prefers a pan Nigeria party. Candid, unpretentious, in the proverbial manner of an old man who would not sit idly by and watch the goat entrapped in its tethers, he fields questions on a myriad issues as the come.
