BAFFIN BAY

It is the arm of the Atlantic Ocean between Greenland and Baffin Island. It is part of the Canadian Northwest territories. Baffin Bay is joined to the Arctic Ocean on the north and the west. This vast bay is about 700 miles long and from 70 to 400 miles wide.
This great area of water is frozen solid for most of the year. It is open to shipping for only a few months in the summer, but dangerous icebergs still float on its surface. Animal life includes seals, walruses and whales

The English navigator and explorer William Baffin discovered the bay in 1616 Baffin was trying to find a northwest passage to the spice lands of the East Indies but decided that none existed both Baffin Bay and nearby Baffin Island were later name after him.
