The Nigerian Immigration
Service conducted an aptitude test today 15th of March. The nationwide
test was conducted all over the federation with centers in almost every state
of the country.
The Lagos State aptitude
test center was at the main bowl of the National Stadium complex in
Surulere. There were a lot of people and the stadium was already filled. The immigration staff started measuring the heights of the applicants but they couldn’t finish due to the number of people available. There were pregnant women. It was like a political campaign.
Surulere. There were a lot of people and the stadium was already filled. The immigration staff started measuring the heights of the applicants but they couldn’t finish due to the number of people available. There were pregnant women. It was like a political campaign.
There was a great rush as
applicants struggled to obtain question/answer paper from the immigration
officer who shared them. After writing another problem was to submit the paper as
a vehicle was used to collect them from the applicants. The immigration officer
stood on top a vehicle to share the papers. The paper did not go round.
A girl was reported to have
fainted in the course of submitting her answer sheet and another had a
dislocation on his foot due to the stampede. Gunshots and teargas was used to
disperse the multitude of applicants. Many applicants did not submit and many
did not write also. The anxiety was copious. Many of the acknowledgement papers
were littered all around the stadium.
The whole process was not
organized. There were too many people. And they could not just handle the
multitude. About 57,000 applicants converged at the stadium, in Abuja about
67,000. It was therefore the survival of the fittest. About 3,000,000 applicant
filled the application form. Only 5000 applicants will be taken nationwide. Who
will get the job?
Applicants expressed their
dissatisfaction over exercise and regretted why they purchased the application
form for NGN1000.
