- POLITICAL JUNCTION OF KIRIKRI TOWN
The home of many and origin of greatness, Kirikiri town as we
would have it currently undergoes a seismic crusade as it tries to place itself in the
forefront of development activities.
Many
would term the stretchy island small but mighty, meaning an island that is
small but activities beyond imagination occur and reoccur therein.
Let’s
shed more light on some of the many activities that have happened over the past
weeks and also lay emphasis based on the possible speculation on the future of
the town in general which is important of every one.
We begin
with the
successful temporary presidential handover of one the Kirikiri CDA Youth
Presidents, Comrade Sani Abari. Reports have it that the youth presidents
proposed trip to the North American continent is personally motivated and only a
little atom of technical benefit to the development of the community. To elaborate
further, the youth presidents trip to North America will broaden his horizon on
the basic running of an administration as wells as enhancing a resilient status
for the CDA youths.
Comrade
Sani Abari last week handed over to Comrade Kareem who won the consensus of
more than half of the CDA1 YOUTH members. Comrade Kareem was the CDA’s treasurer
before being elevated as acting president.
The handover
remains temporary until the return of Comrade Sani Abari from oversees.
However,
observers of the activities of the CDA youth express their thoughts about the
handover saying that for an elected official to hand over temporarily a seat of
administration to someone other than his deputy or vice shows that the CDA youth
has no constitution that they follow.
Moving
over to a quite unfortunate crisis going on among the CDA2 youth where the Youth
President Comrade Sunday Ijaogbomo faces impeachment. Hilarious as it may sound but that is an incorrect
word to be used for a president who was only appointed and not elected into
office.
The crisis
among the CDA2 youth has been under scrutiny which has brought about several forms
of authorities to preside over it.
Peeping
into the origin of the crisis, a close source who is a member of the Kirikiri
town CDA2 youth disclosed that the ongoing crisis which left the office locked and
the traffic surveillance unattended to for over seven days is only a political
set off and the minds of the CDA2 youth members became the playing group of
party men.
“I
am not a politician, I preach peace everywhere I go and even in my CDA but I was
surprised to witness what’s before me. They said they don’t want me again as their
president because of politics. I voted for PDP during the last election and that’s
what made them angry because majority of the CDA youth members are APC
members. My vote is my personal
franchise and I vote for who is credible, I am shocked that is the reason for
this crisis.”
“There
was no agreement by my CDA whatsoever that all the youths must vote a particular
party. The elders intervened with a letter. I met with their chairman, Chief
Yakubu who questioned my leadership responsibilities. When I explained to him,
he felt something was really up the sleeves of my comrades and not what all
allegations pointed as” explained the CDA Youth President Comrade Sunday Ijaogbomo
as he spoke to Kirikiri News on the crisis.
Another
member of the CDA2 sighted that the youth president relieved his Chief Task
force Comrade Femi from his position. The reasons yet unknown to them raised
eyebrows as they are both relatives. They also claimed that the presidents move
to relocate outside Kirikiri town after the death of his wife, son and a most
loyal comrade who happened to be the Chief Security Officer of CDA2 Mr. Eboh
made him far beyond their reach.
The
impeachment notice given to the CDA2 president has not been verified as about
three fractions have emerged under the embryonic crisis. Two of these fractions
clamor for an election to be conducted among the CDA aspirants for youth presidents
and not to remove the president from office but the other fraction maintain the
president must leave his office immediately.
How
good and fine does it mean to the people of Kirikiri town knowing that the
person representing the Amuwo Odofin Constituency II, Hon. Akeem Bello of PDP has
already began his representation practically and aims to be minority leader for
effective representation.
Areas
opposite the Lagos- Badagry expressway ending at satellite town where Kirikiri
town falls under have felt his presence unofficially as he secured one of the
best houses on Johnson street, acquired a brand new SUV and also organized an inauguration
party for all who voted him into office. It is believed that Hon. Akeem Bello wants
to reside among those he truly loves the most. His family, friends, the Kirikiri
town people even with the dilapidated roads, the Dillion killer road, dirty environment,
blocked gutters and all the good things Kirikiri town has to offer.
Also,
in order to abolish the famous notion among young minds that when one attains a
new height in life, whether financially or otherwise, to forget everyone and
crave for a new life may be preposterous and trivial.
Doesn’t
Akeem Bello rep his hood?
Taking
a leap further, we poke the Elders Foundation Patron Chief Babalola Shabi (Awujale)
on the ongoing drainage construction at Magbesa Street. Resident say they find
it hard to connect with their cars to another street or to the end of the same
street but other resident s questions asking;
“Before
the construction, could cars connect from Magbesa Street without bringing down
the bumper totally?”
Could
cars even connect to the end of Magbesa Street to Tariah Street? Impossible!
However,
plead for the speed up of the construction as they appreciate the fact that it
is a single handed project which has gulped millions.
Speaking
to a resident on Magbesa Street, Joy expressed reigning praises on Chief
Awujale.
“We
love Awujale and we love what he is doing for the people of Kirikiri town. We say
thank you for your effort to make Kirikiri town a better place” Joy spoke to Kirikiri
news.
Let’s
drive and halt at the political junction of Kirikiri town but before we halt, let’s
purchase some Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the Kirikiri town Oil Depots.
The oil
product scarcity which rocked the nation for almost 10 days left members of the
public with no choice than to buy a liter of fuel for NGN600. The masses knew
how powerful fuel means to the nation Nigeria. It became the alternative of
good life. However, resident of Kirikiri town who live close to the oil depots
believed that they could get the product at a lesser prize but they got a fire
panic from Techno Oil Depot as its discharge nozzle went up in flames in the
heat of the fuel scarcity.
Reports
and feedback on the causes of the fire have not been disclosed to the press but
repair has been done on the affected areas.
Apparently,
the hike which affected the economy of Kirikiri town benefited them too in the
area of the traffic congestion of the Kirikiri Link Bridge as a standing order
was given by the LASG to evacuate all tankers from the highway and bridges
across Lagos State within 24 hours.
The in
flock of tankers / oil sales and marketing make up about 65% of the Kirikiri towns
income while manufacturing 20%, housing 10% and agriculture 5%.
Back
to the political junction of Kirikiri town, weeks after the inauguration of the
president, governors, senators, federal and state house of representatives’
members of the public still await elections for the Chairmen of Local
Government and their ward Councilors.
APC’s
Hon. Moshood who has interest in the chairmanship seat is making sure he is not
leaving any stone unturned in his aspiration. Meanwhile the primaries for both
APC and PDP councilor race have not been conducted by the party but the
aspirants of PDP have single handedly taken over the streets with their
campaign posters.
Reports
have it that there are up to 7 councilor aspirants for Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) and about 6 for All Progressives Party (APC).
The councilor seat is the lowest seat in the government body but the closest to the masses. It
is not a position of popularity but a position to serve the public.
These
and many more have happened in Kirikiri town over the past weeks such as about
8 deaths of youths in a span of 2 months which has made residents and churches in
the area embark on a proposed plan for a general prayer and praise night vigil
and the KIRIKIRI TOWN FAMILY group of Facebook set to change its name to
KIRIKIRI ONLINE COMMUNITY on the 13th of July 2015.
Taking
a brave step to goggle on the prospective developmental progress of the town,
these past activities have a potential reflection of how the future may resemble.
But until then, Kirikiri News Media will
continue to bring to light the many positive activities of Kirikiri town and
its environs.
