PURE WATER HAWKING GOES WILD IN KIRIKIRI TOWN

“After the Lagos State government banned motorcycle operations on all highways of the state in 2013, the people practically known to be in this line of business are dominated by the young northerners in Nigeria” a resident of Kirikiri town explained when questioned about his reactions
towards the high activity level of pure water hawkers in Kirikiri town.

Kirikiri town is a part of Lagos State that no matter what you sell people must buy. In its pine for chilled water, these northerners capitalized on it to go on a pure water (sachet water) selling extravaganza.

They have a distributor at Johnson Close and Cardoso Street where they go amass to collect bags of sachet water and put them in basins to hawk. Many of them put a little marketing strategy such as shouting on top of their voices in unknown languages to create attention as they trekked sporadically all around the place. “ehhhheeeee” and “purewater” are their most commonly used words.

Many of them are in their early twenties or mid. They go about this business with so much zeal and they make about NGN2000 daily. They increase in number every day. Statistics shows that in December 2013, they were about 4 in number, in January 2014, 15 and in February 21. The figure isn't at a brink of reduction instead it surely intensifies. By March what will figure will it escalate to?

“These Hausa boys are business inclined” a resident named Chioma said as she smiled.
“They are not Hausa, they are from Niger” a Hausa male resident said antagonistically.

Hmmm. This is interesting.
