An accident happened this afternoon at
about 12:30 pm on the Kirikiri link bridge involving a Lexus RX300 and a
trailer. It cannot be called a head to head collision but a head to tail
collision. The registration number of the car is AJ-379-EKY. It was however a
disastrous one as the car was damaged beyond repair.
The front bumper, engine, head lights,
windscreen and all other components that make up a car’s frontal was ruined and
wrecked. Even if the car will be repaired, it would be only be used as a
souvenir. If not for the trailer which acted as a barricade, the car would have
found itself at the bottom of the Kirikiri River.
The driver was not seen at the accident
site. Eye witness say that immediately the car hit the trailer which has been
parked at the side of the road since morning, the driver, which happened to be
a military man (a lieutenant serving in the navy) managed to squeeze himself
out of the compressed car alive and only with a scratch on his hands and also
without the help of the crowd. He rushed himself to the hospital for treatment.
It was his boys who came to rid the car of all his possessions. The airbag of
the car however, did a good job in its capacity.
“When I hear gbam! Na him I run go see
wetin happen, omo no be small thing, na God save am” an eye witness said. “This
man don get accident last year with him former car on the 31st,
today again the same thing, Na wa ooo, Na spiritual something” another eyewitness
said as people listened in awe. “The car no fail brake ooo, I no just know
wetin happen to the man” another eyewitness said with confidence.
The DPO of Kirikiri town police station
was at the scene where he confirmed the incident personally. The men of the Federal
Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were also on ground to ensure the accident did
not cause any traffic on federal road. The policemen are on top of the
situation and they have it contained.
