The Queen of
Sheba visited King Solomon. Her goal was to test the truth of Solomon’s famed wisdom
(1 Kings 10:1). Legend has it that one of the tests she gave Solomon was to put
two pots containing identical flowers at a distance. One pot held freshly
plucked
rose from the garden, the other colorful velvet fabric masterfully cut
into rose petals. The resemblance was very striking. Solomon was required to
pick the pot containing the real flower.
The story goes
that Solomon asked that both pots be placed on the window opened to let in
fresh air. Within moments a bee or two flew in through the window and made
straight for the fresh flower drawn by the scent coming from within it. Said the
wise king, “You see, a real flower is more than colors, it gives out scent!”
How true! What
makes you a Christian is not merely the verbal profession or the colorful
testimonies, but the godly virtues that flow out from within you. And now let
me ask “what do you have within?”
Challenge: An
empty sack cannot stand upright.
Prayer: Lord,
let my life issue forth the sweetness of Christ.
