BIRD OF PARADISE

This is the name given to a group of tropical birds from New Guinea and northern Australia. They are noted mainly for their dazzling feathers, which grow in many unusual forms. Birds of paradise live in thick forests and eats fruits and insects.
During the mating season, the males gather in trees to show off their gorgeous feathers to the drab-looking females. The parade consists of dancing, strutting and spreading their feathers. The females build the nests and lay from one to three spotted white eggs.
In the old days, many people used the beautiful feathers of the bird of paradise as decorations for their hats, and the birds were hunted until they almost died out. But today they are protected by law.
