…avenge
any transgression against what I say is forbidden.” And Eewo walked on home.
The
townspeople all rushed to the stream. There, floating on top of the water for
all to see were five bodies of Akinbo, his mother and his three sons. The
people stood there
horrified.
“Five
people perished because of one man’s willfulness,” grieved one woman, shaking
her head sorrowfully
“It is
those innocent boys that I am sorry for,” lamented another woman.
“As
fruits of a forbidden union, they too have been destroyed, otherwise they will
come to contaminate our community,” a forceful young man declared.
“Marry
your own mother indeed! Psheew,” spat an elderly woman, in disgust
“Asheey,
when they say it is wrong to marry one’s mother, this is what it means!”
exclaimed a teenage boy.

warned!” an older man quickly confirmed his observation.
They
all ran back to town to tell the Oba the outcome of that forbidden union of
long ago, between Akinbo and his mother.
“May
the one we counsel listen, May the one we counsel take heed. If the one we
counsel does not listen or take heed, his eyes will see what Akinbo’s eye have
seen. I told you that Eewo would eventually avenge this abomination. You see
how he has done it? What is forbidden is forbidden! Reminded the dignified,
white-haired man, who now turned around and walked home…To be continued on Tuesday.
