There was a case whereby a customer requested that the pump
attendant must give him NGN500 worth of PMS after he was given NGN480 worth,
the pump attendant said to the customer,
“My friend carry this gallon away from here, na you get sense pass
abi? (are you the most
intelligent?), give me my money and create space here,
because other people (ignorant and peace-loving masses) are in the queue.”
When the customer refused to give him the money, he kept the
gallon aside and continued to sell to other customers. The customer felt
cheated. He located the filling stations office and reported the issue to the
assistant manager.
The assistant manager took the customer back to the pump attendant
and asked him to complete the sales. The pump attendant grumbled. He fixed the
pumps nozzle into the gallons opening, punched 2-0 on the pump’s machine and
took it off immediately then restarted the counter.
Absolutely nothing was added.
Another complain to the manager would have instigated an
allow-me-do-my-job response from the pump attendant also a what-is-your-problem
from the assistant manager. The customer paid and left the filling station
unsatisfied and oppressed.
The pump attendants are ecstatic when the children and youths come
to buy any oil product because they deliberately extort them in the name of ‘na
where person dey work, person go chop’ (where someone works, he feeds).
Their actions lead to many unforeseen consequences on the life of
their many customers…to be continued tomorrow.
