From President Goodluck Jonathan came a
message of hope for Nigerians Friday, as he promised that his government would
see to the end of the Boko Haram insurgency, just as, according to him, Nigeria
defeated the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The assurances from Mr.
President came on the heels of reported death of the sect’s leader ‘Abubakar
Shekau.’
The president spoke at the
Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City during the South-South Unity rally,
where he also vowed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would win
convincingly all elections slated for next year.
He said: “There was
somebody who said PDP believes in stomach infrastructure; yes, because PDP must
ensure food security. Every government in this world talks about food security
and job creation and the Nigerian government has been given award by the Food
and Agriculture Organisation for reducing extreme hunger by 50 per cent.
“Our detractors don’t want
Nigerians to know that we are working, but others who monitor what is happening
in the whole world know that we are working, even the World Health organisation
recently recognised our commitment, in terms of fighting Ebola. So, I promise
you that our transformation agenda will succeed.
