"KIRIKIRI
TOWN DON TIRE ME"- RESIDENTS SPEAK (PART5)
By
Okechukwu Uchechukwu Daniel
…Another
meticulous peep at the structures built in Kirikiri town compared to other
towns will make one realize that a lot of infrastructural investment is
inevitably necessary. In Comfort Oboh area of the same town, state of the art
captivating buildings stares at the faces of pedestrians and they also brighten
the minds of passersby making them say “At least we fed our eyes a little”, but
other areas of the town will make your stroll provoking when you see nothing
but ancient bungalows built during the time of the British colonialist, Lord Luggard
or perhaps Sango, the god deity.
Away
from that onto apt analysis of some events may serve as historical backup.
Kudos
to the Kirikiri town/Apapa Elder’s Foundation comprising of landlords and elder
statesmen as they repeatedly petitioned the Oriade Local Government Council
repeatedly for years concerning the bad state of the streets and they only
dimmed it fit to pour sand and gravel on several worst road in Kirikiri town in
January 2015.
The youths
agitated and poured out their minds to the oil depot owners and they
interlocked a major street of about 100 meters in length in September 2013 and
promised to extend the same good job to another major street but only poured
hardcore, gravel and white sand on that street and others which articulated
loaded trucks/ unloaded might pass in December 2013.
The
question remains whose agitation was stronger?
Sometime
last year the MDG’s erected and installed 20 solar powered street lights on
Cardoso Street and Karimu Street. These light are currently fluctuating while
some aren’t working anymore even if the heat from the sun can literally boil
frozen block in a bucket after 3 hours. Lack of maintenance!!!
Same
2013, a solar powered 5000 bore-hole water project was installed inside Local
Authority Primary School. It is currently begging for maintenance. Reports have
it that it pumps water automatically whenever it likes. Lack of maintenance!!!
1n
April 2014, a community bore-hole built by the CDA1 youth was completed. The
water was reportedly not hygienic for drinking. It lacked adequate chlorine.
Nothing was done to make it right. Currently, A proposed drinking water is not
used for other things but some ignorant residents still use it to cook after
much warning. The water project’s slab has been destroyed for over 3 months now
but nothing has been done about it. Lack of maintenance!!!
It
is not about agitation only but after the reason for agitation has been met, it
needs to be maintained… to be continued tomorrow
