CAR VANDAL APPREHENDED BY VIGILANTE – EX-CONVICT ALLY ESCAPES

The vigilante team of the Kirikiri Town Community Development Association Youth in Lagos has caught a suspected car vandal. The suspect, Olusola Oyetoro, aged 28 was caught with the tire fittings, roof fittings, side mirror and headlamps of a Toyota 4runner SUV at midnight. His ally escaped with parts of 3 other vandalized vehicles.

“We caught them at Ajanlekoko Street. One of them was obviously carrying something and he looked like a pregnant woman. We questioned their whereabouts at midnight but they challenged us. After much shouting they revealed what was in their Ankara wrapped sac. One of them immediately escaped but we apprehended this suspect.” One of the vigilante men uttered

The vigilantes were reported to have kept Olusola in their custody and went after the other suspect but he evaded apprehension.

Olusola also confessed to have been in the business of car vandalism for over a year with his first major operations at Cardoso area of Kirikiri town, Tin can and Apapa. The suspect, Olusola  disclosed that he knows the terrain because he have lived there once before moving to Badagry area a year ago but he met a friend named Olowa at Tin-can port area who was just released from Kirikiri Prison 3 months ago and he convinced him to join him in the operation.

“We come into the town of operation at night with our tools; survey the area for expensive cars that are parked on the street. At midnight, we begin to lose all the parts. We have always heard about the vigilante security and we have always monitored them. When they caught me, I tried to bribe them but instead they refused and beat me properly. I will not do it anymore, this is a disgrace. It is the work of the devil” the suspect said.

According to the custom tradition of the Kirikiri town community, whenever a criminal suspect is caught he or she is paraded around the entire community unclad before taken to the police for proper investigation as they are the only community in Nigeria that never take laws into their own hands.

The Kirikiri town Police DCO however, commended the vigilante team for their collaborative effort in the fight for a safer society when the suspect was handed over to the police.

Kirikiri News gathered that the robbery took place in a car maintenance shop inside the Nigerian prison service barracks, Kirikiri town.
