PANIC AS TANKER CARRYING FUEL TUMBLES ON AIRPORT ROAD

Another fire situation is currently being averted. Few minutes ago, a tanker carrying about 33,000 liters Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) tumbled. The tanker however, did not fall completely as the head was still intact but the tail was partially dismembered. It fell at 3:30 pm where business was still bustling on the airport road – airport road is a street in Kirikiri town.
The incident happened on airport road close to SOT filling station. The tanker was reported to have left the depot after loading its desired product and was making its exit, due to the blockage of the Kirikiri town family way - the road which has been under drainage construction for over a month - airport road was then used as the alternative route to connect the link bridge. The road is too narrow for trailers to make a direct turn therefore; it takes about 3 minutes for a trailer to make a turn into airport road.

After taking rigorous measures to make the first turn at the first junction of airport road the second one was however a disastrous one as the truck’s rear tyre entered into a gutter by the side of the road which resulted in its fall.

People shouted for joy because the phone repair shop that the truck fell on did currently not inhabit anyone as the owner did not show up today. Maybe he knew? Other shops that were on that line were fully up and running at the time of the incident. They all fled immediately they saw the truck jittering from left to right.

With immediate effect, all roads leading in and out of the accident site was closed using a caution tape. The men of the Lagos Stare Fire Service took about 15 minutes to arrive, before they did, fire service department of the depots were present with about 3 water tanks including their staffs. Immediately, the state’s fire service arrived, they sprayed the tank to calm it down or perhaps to make the fuel diluted so as not to provoke the fire in it. It is however being contained.

The men of the Police, Navy, and Federal Road Safety Service (FRSC) secured the barricade ensuring that the ever available onlookers did not in any way near the site. Preventive measures have been taken to ensure further damage, although, the PMS still leaks from the tank. SOT filling station has shut down operations temporarily.

No life has been lost so far, not even the trailer driver was hurt, only some properties have been destroyed. Sympathy goes out to the owners of the product which the tanker was carrying. We hope this would be the only situation.

Our motto remains…Upgrading Standards.
