KARIMU CARNIVAL – TALENT SHOWOFF

The Karimu carnival officially opened this year’s carnival galore. Street jam as popular known by the people of Kirikiri is one annual event that everyone looks forward to. Apparently, Magbesa Street organized their street jam ‘Banta Banta’ on the same day with 1960 bet’s jersey party.
The stage was set for several performances from upcoming and professional singers within and outside Kirikiri town to entertain the people of Kirikiri with their God given talents. The carnival stage is essentially for musicians and dancers.

The stage was located on Karimu Street, some meters away from Asara motel. There were 2 Snooker boards where games were played, sustenance unit where food (Rice, Noodles & Egg, Assorted Meat and other varieties), drinks (multifarious alcoholic and non- alcoholic) were sold. These served as side attractions for the event. All other shops around the vicinity made good sales all night.

Oritse Femi and Solidstar were among the music artistes to perform on the stage but due to some methodological reasons they weren’t present, complained the organizers. In spite of this hiccup, upcoming artistes such as Saint (He used to live on Airport road and was a member of the defunct music group ‘Unfadables’ performed , others were Rawcash, Alaje, D blaze, Activities and other promising arts.

The hit performances of the night were form Immaculate and 2 Smart as they received much more cheers from the crowd but something mindboggling occurred when Immaculate finished her performance and the MC requested music by Timaya ‘Ukwu’ to be played while she descended the stage - Ukwu means waist line.

Immaculate performed the track. ‘Sugar la la’ and ended prophesying that she loves Kirikiri town after she had danced analytically.

The organizational conception was satisfactory. When speaking to Kirikiri town family, the organizer Mr. Eretan Omosuyi Francis aka Otunba 75 said the carnival is the oldest in Kirikiri town. He also added that it has been running annually for the past 15 years and that it is a platform to promote the upcoming artists. He didn’t fail to mention that without Mr. Joe Tega Gift who he described as the backbone of the event, the carnival might not be possible. This same Joe Tega Gift was also the back bone of ‘The Platform’ program. He however, supports the youth whenever he is called upon. Kirikiri town appreciates his positive and inspiring bounteousness.

“I can choose to lose today because the show outside is worthwhile”. A sex worker with Asara motel explained happily.

The Chairman of Oriade Local Government Area, Moshood Olanrewaju Badmus and the Councilor representing Ward D kirikiri town, Hon. Ibrahim Abari Ajibola were both briefly present at the event. About 500 people were in attendance.

Kirikiri town is a place where activities happen; we look forward to next year’s carnival. Watch out for the next street jam’s update.

Our motto remains…Upgrading Standards.
