The ECN and the Niger Dam Authority (NDA) were merged to
become the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) with effect from the 1
April 1972. The actual merger did not take place until 6 January 1973 when the
first general manager was appointed.
This privatization was ensured and NEPA was changed to PHCN. The
Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), formerly the National Electric Power
Authority was an organization governing the use of electricity in Nigeria. PHCN
ceased to exist from 30th September 2013 following a successful privatization
process by the Goodluck Jonathan government.
The just concluded sale of former
National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), Power Holding Company Of Nigeria (PHCN)
To Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in 2013 brought joy to many
citizens of Nigeria as many saw it a prayer well answered.
The new company however, started work
in Kirikiri town as they were found testing a faulty component in the
transformer beside St. Joseph Catholic Church. They came with a fault testing
equipment to ascertain where the problem was coming from. Kirikiri town gladly
anticipates that there will be a righteous change and our bulbs will shine only
when we want it to.
