MUTI AJE-RO CARNIVAL - A cultural upgraded crusade.

Residents and visitors were amazed at the level of advancement of the people who were thought to be so ‘traditional’ or rather outmoded. This mesmerizing thought however, was considered inferior by the people in question as they made it clearly known that
change is unremitting.

Agunbiade Street has a history of being so culturally preserved, although, they still are but not as they were in eight years ago. A total number of 3 carnivals have been held on Agunbiade Street.

The Muti Aje-Ro Progressive Boyz Club earlier known as Kpaiko and whose slogan is almost similar to that of our dear country Nigeria - Unity, love and progress - were the organizers of their indigenous Kirikiri carnival. They are the same people who are behind the Egunu festival which is the delight of every little child because they feel happy and scared at the same time when being chased by the Egenu (masquarade). Muti Ajer-ro means ‘think about wealth’ but could be further explained as ‘he who works hard must benefit’.

The father of the day was Chief Wahab A.S. Agunbiade who is the Baale of Kirikiri town. Artists invited were Remi Aloko and one of Kirikiri town’s top 10 artists School boy. The stage was already set 8 hours before the program and it was located in some meters close to the Egunu house. There was a time when some military men climbed on the stage to make a peace announcement to all. There was several security measures put in place by the organizers.

The organizers set up chairs and tables in a rope barricaded manner that looked like those used for a boxing ring and that was where VIP’s were seated. It was quite witty seeing everyone congregate once again for a carnival even when the festive atmosphere was fast fading away. Just as all other carnival trend, the Muti Aje-ro Progressive Boyz Club members were all putting on an identical blue T-shirt which was customized bearing the name of the club, individual names at the back and lastly a picture depicting a bag of overflowing currency presumed to be US. Dollars.

When Kirikiri town family spoke with the chairman of the club Mr. Wasiu Badmus, he expressed his warmest cognizance and further stated that things changed and civilization is the watchword for their recent upgrade. The president, Mr. Ojo also enlightened us that this is the second edition of the carnival and it was better than the previous because a big star will perform live in Kirikiri town. One of the organizers who happen to be one of the Baale’s sons made Kirikiri news understand that the first street jam/carnival in Kirikiri town started in Agunbiade Street.

Their level of togetherness must be commended. They event witnessed about 500 people in attendance. Nevertheless it ended at 5am and we look forward to the next episode.

Our motto remains…Upgrading Standards.
