Some couple of day ago, a gunshot was heard coming
from a direction close to Victor Nwachukwu area. It was at 10 pm and people
began to run helter skelter.
"I saw some groups of boys running down the
street towards Cardoso Street" an eye witness said.
Kirikiri news gathered that some group of boys
arranged a birthday get-together using the hotel's bar. They were said to have
been having a good time when one of the guys among the group picked up a
quarrel with another fun seeker who wasn't among them. He emptied a bottle of
beer on the other as a result of the squabble. This led to an outrage and
bottles began to shatter here and there.
Some mobile policemen (three of them who weren't on
uniform) were also at the bar at that time. They saw all that had transpired.
They tried to calm the situation along with the hotel manager but instead it
escalated further.
One of the mobile policemen who weren't armed at
that time of settlement was almost swallowed in the midst of the tiff scenario.
One of the boys punched the bar attendant and another, the manager who asked
them out of the bar. The boys went wild and scattered the whole bar.
The mobile policeman rushed down to the Mitsubishi
gallant car they had come with and brought out his NPF registered Ak-47 then he
released a bullet in the air. The boys began to run away.
They used their car along with the hotel manager to
pursue them further with the gun carrier sitting on the boot top of the car as
though it was a war status quo and to report the case to the police station in
Kirikiri town. Some minutes later, they came back with two policemen serving in
the Kirikiri town police station. The boys had fled and no one was caught.
Chairs, bottles and glasses were counted among the
hotel damages.
It was brought to the notice that in the course of
the rampage the bottles broken splashed on an underage young boy (name
withheld). He sustained deep multiple bottle cuts on his lip, eyebrow and
cheek. The boy however did not expose this to the police or the hotel manager.
He was however treated by his friend.
"Do you know these boys?" asked Kirikiri
news correspondent
"These boys who perpetuated this act of
indiscipline are from Agunbiade Street, before they had this party here, they
were warned. I know one of them, he usually comes here to drink and we will get
him" says the hotel manager.
"Where the mobile policemen here on duty"
"Why do you ask, they came to have fun"
the manager said as he turned to one of the on-duty policemen to explain. On
the other hand one of the mufti-policemen (not the one who released the shot)
bragged of his various escapades more life threatening than this one.
The issue was followed closely by Kirikiri news and
there have been no update and comment from the manager. Business activities
were however not affected by the incident.
