“Yes I will,” Tesa answered. “I’ll come with Eta”

“Good” the man said.

Soon Adia and the children left because the visiting hour was over. The patient sat down and he and Amoda began to talk. It turned out that the patient was the Director of the Building Company where Amoda was once the foreman. Amoda explained to him why he left the company without notice, without waiting to collect his pay. The Director had looked for him for a long time. At last he had learnt that Amoda’s wife had become a blind beggar. He had guessed then that Amoda had left the city.

After a long discussion Amoda agreed to join the Director once they were both out of the hospital. The Director offered Amoda the post of a manager in his Company which had grown very big. Amoda introduced his wife to the Director. He also told his wife that he had got a job. They were all pleased.

Not long after Amoda’s wounds healed. He was discharged. He drove home in a taxi with his wife and children. He was not thinking of his room in the coal camp.

As they entered the house, Amoda stood still. The house did not look like his home which he left in a hurry. There were chairs and tables and new bed. There were beautiful curtains in the window and carpets on the floor. Two other rooms had been added. Amoda did not now wonder where Adia got money to do it all. He already knew.

Adia led Amoda straight to the new dining table. They sat down too. The house maids served lunch. It was the best meal Amoda has ever had. The children looked happy and they talked and talked and ate and ate. Adia did not go to the shop that day. She remained at home with her husband and the children. It was like a festival. It was a new life for Amoda. A new life he loved very much.

The following day Amoda went to the shopping center in the company of Tesa and Eta. His wife had gone to her shop early that morning. When Amoda entered Adia’s shop he could not believe his eyes. It was just one of...to be continued on Saturday
