CHIBOK : 7 PARENTS OF ABDUCTED GIRLS DIE OF TRAUMA

• 229 killed, 100 injured in 15 terrorist attacks in 3 months

Eighty two days after more than 200 school girls were abducted from a government secondary school in Chibok town, Borno State, facts emerged yesterday that at
least 15 serial terrorist attacks have been carried out in and around the community since the ugly abduction saga took place on the 14/15 April, 2014.

Addressing media conference in Abuja, National Chairman of Kibaku (Chibok) Area Development Association (KADA), Dr Pogu Bitrus accused the Federal Government and security forces of neglecting their responsibilities in protecting lives and properties in Chibok community.

Bitrus specifically singled out the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh and accused him of not living up to his promise to free the abducted girls.

He wondered why all the rescue efforts of the government are yet to yield results.

“Today (yesterday) is 81 days since the abduction, and in spite of the firm/categorical statements by the CDS that the location of the girls is known to the government, the appalling situation and agony encompassing the unfortunate abduction saga and detention of the Chibok girls by the Boko Haram insurgents continue and the rescue efforts by the government are yet to yield any result.

“While this unfortunate situation persists, many distressed parents are dying of heart attacks and frustration as their dejection has become unbearable. On record, seven parents have lost their lives due to the trauma of the situation,” Bitrus revealed.

Recounting the attacks in 19 villages that make up Chibok, Bitrus said: “Unfortunately, again, the Federal Government has not provided adequate security in Chibok (Kibaku) area since the unfortunate abduction of April 14th/15, 2014 even in the face of persistent attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents.

“So far, Boko Haram has carried out 15 attacks on the Chibok (Kibaku) nation involving 19 villages with over 229 killed and over 100 injured. Some of the victims of these attacks are parents and relations of the abducted girls and thereby adding more pains to the traumatic condition already inherent in the Chibok (Kibaku) community.

​“Failure and/or inability of the Federal Government to provide adequate security in the area despite this real and present danger has further exposed Chibok town and its environs to greater danger and insecurity.”

He said local vigilance group has now taken over the responsibilities of security agencies, while soldiers sit back and watch villagers being massacred by the Islamic insurgents. “Security and defence is mainly provided by the local vigilance group and the police, while the soldiers in Chibok sit back and watch villagers being helplessly massacred in their homes, farms and in places of worship,” Bitrus added.

He further revealed that 90 per cent of the terrorists attacks are usually transmitted to the villagers in advance and in turn, the information is passed on to the relevant quarters.

“As a matter of urgency, we wish to alert the general public and the international community that after the attack on 4 villages of Kautikari, Nguradina, Kwada/Kaumutayahi and Kakulmari on Sunday June 29, 2014, which recorded 105 deaths, the residents of Kautikari have received what the Boko Haram sect termed final notice to attack Kautikari again by advising residents to vacate the village or face total annihilation on their next attack, which has been promptly reported to the security agencies.

According to Bitrus, Kaya town in Damboa Local Governemaent Area  which was attacked yesterday July 3, 2014 received a stern warning from the Boko Haram insurgents after the attack to vacate their town; given that they constitute an obstacle on their way to invading Chibok (Kibaku) Nation.”

“There is also looming famine in the Chibok (Kibaku) Nation and environs as a result of the terrorists’ activities and other social/medical challenges due to the overcrowding of Chibok town by the mass influx of people from adjoining villages and Local government Areas,” he further revealed.
