How would you rate the South east governors? Are they meeting the
expectations of the people and your own expectations?
They are governors of their states, but
they are not Igbo leaders. They are governors, effective or ineffective.
What do you mean that they are not Igbo leaders?
I have never seen them take any
position in the common interests of Igbo land.
Do you have any specific example to justify your positions?
You can only give example of what took
place. What did not take place; you cannot give example of it.
I mean, there must be one situation where they were anti-Igbo?
Alright, you have Ohanaeze as the
umbrella organization of Ndigbo. Not a single governor of the present set has
any interest in Ohanaeze. The other day, Ohanaeze wanted to hold Igbo rally at
Okpara square at Enugu, and the state government insisted that Ohanaeze must
pay N100,000 (One hundred thousand Naira) for Ohanaeze to use the field. But
the present secretariat of Ohanaeze was given to the organization by Dr.
Okwesileze Nwodo when he was the governor of Enugu State. Every governor is
entitled to be a member of Ime Obi, the highest decision making organ. It is
their right. None of the present governors attends any of the meetings, and yet
they are invited. What is responsible for the apathy?
They are governors of their states, but
they are not Igbo leaders. They have no collective Igbo interests in them
Given the spiraling crises in Nigeria today, as a foremost
nationalist, I want you to give a prescription for peace to reign
One, the most critical area of crises
is the Boko Haram nonsense that is going on now. There should be a solution to
the menace. I said it more than a year ago, that the Federal Government should realize
that right inside their government, they have Boko Haram members. It is not
these small boys who carry bombs or guns that are only involved. They are not
the ones who provide the funds. Some influences, some people, some authorities
are providing the funds. Some authorities are providing the technical know-how.
For the manufacturing of the explosive devices and others, some military
personnel are training these people. So, why is it that Boko Haram will just
wake up and come and burn down a police station, drive away an army unit
somewhere, and even enter army barracks. How is it that more than 200 girls
abducted is was done easily? It is not a job 5 or 6 people could have done. It
must have been accomplished by at least over a 100 people.
You see, the girls will naturally want
to run around to escape and they will be picked up, one by one. Again, they
would not have been taken away in one vehicle. At least six or more vehicles
would have been used. And this operation could not have been accomplished in
five or ten minutes. It must have taken hours. And yet the security services in
that area did not know of it and did not do anything. No reaction. No. The
government should dig into what is happening and change their methods and
approach. Those girls have been taken away for two weeks now. Don’t forget they
were taken away in the night and some of them did not have enough clothes on
their bodies. Some of them were in their sleeping gowns. Are we not human
beings? Are we not giving a thought to the fate of the girls? And there is no
doubt about it, they are being raped by these criminals. It shows that certain
people in authority, power and wealth are backing these people. So, if they are
backing them and they want the country to breakup, why don’t they have the
courage to declare that they don’t want to be part of the country again? The
government should study the situation and face realities… The End…
