“Help!
Help! Somebody! Everybody! Help!” shouted some men working beside the boy. Many
others came running to offer assistance. When they saw how critical the boy’s
condition rapidly became. They carried him quickly to his father, Olofin. Soon
the boy was in such a state that he could not eat or drink, or ease himself in any
way. They all feared that he would die. Alarmed, Olofin sent for several Babalawo,
and fathers of ancient wisdom, who are also excellent healers. Of course,
because of their recent encounter, Olofin did not feel comfortable consulting
Orunmila, the chief of all the Babalawo. But the Babalawo he consulted all
insisted that Olofin must consult Ifa if his son was not to die. During divination
they discovered that there was a person in Olofin’s farm who ought not to be
working there.
“If you
want your son to live, you must release this person of his duties immediately,”

Who can this mysterious person be? Olofin speculated distractedly. He tried to
remember the iwofa and eru he had working on his farm.
“Maybe
it is Esu’s son?” suggested one of the eru, who also worked on the farm, and
who had helped bring over Olofin’s son.
