"KIRIKIRI TOWN DON TIRE ME"- RESIDENTS SPEAK
By Okechukwu Uchechukwu Daniel

Kirikiri town is a small but mighty community in Lagos state. With an estimated population of about 33,000 people, this number have increased with the in flock of migrant workers, artisans, business men and women whom were drawn by the honey produced by the tank farms located within the Kirikiri town community.

Before the massive trooping of the oil depots in Kirikiri town in 2005, the economy of Kirikiri town could be described as ‘Aagricrudconreal’ which simply explains itself as an economic mixture of agriculture, minute crude oil product procurement and sales, container terminal docks and primitive real estate.

Apparently, if compared to Lagos Island, the economy of Kirikiri town could be rated out of 100 with the ratio 18.6:62.4. This explains the experienced excruciating poverty rate before the year 2005.

In the compulsory race for greener pastures as some might say which the writer disagrees to because man isn’t a cow who eats only green grass but other enticing delicacies; many left the town to other foreign lands, many others relocated to another town, many sold their properties out of frustration, others lost the Lagos dream and went back to the village while a hand full remained with promising hope of a better future for Kirikiri town.

time passed, prisoners increased, leaves withered and rejuvenated, season changed from rainy to dry, domestic animals reduced in numbers but survived and men and women reproduced until recent times where a part of the white film blocking the eyes of people shriveled up, a piece of the thick brownish substance hampering developmental sound to the eardrum fell without the use of a cotton board and with the help of a did-you-not-see-how-ordinary-festactown-has-developed dirty slap to the community’s' cheek, the peoples medulla oblongata underwent an imperative restructuring, resetting and reformation.
After the…to be continued tomorrow..
