The
Dillion road which was made permanently impassable last week due to the
construction of a drainage passage by Federal Road Maintenance Agency FERMA resulted
into a secret diversion made by the prison officers.
The
temporary gate was made with 2 close distanced hips of 5 tires with a long
bamboo stick on top of it. It looked like a short goal post.
This
secret linkage is not a free passage way as fares are being paid to a group of
8 young agile boys who individually exhibited a tax collectors attitude like
that of Matthew in the Bible. The prison officers on duty were however on
ground to make sure that if issues arise that the boys couldn't handle, they
would swoop in.
Swoop
in, they actually did when one sienna minivan paid the sum of NGN50, the prison
officers asked the car to go back immediately. Coming that far, and knowing the
cost of going back, they upgraded their payment as they were desperate. They
finally passed.
Creative
way of applying the proverb that says: make hay while the sun shines. The boys
and the officers might reason, but imagine this little conversation; “Do you
want to enter my barracks, how can I help you” said the armed prison officer in
a hostile way to a close observer. “Is this really a right thing to do?” the
observer asked the prison officers with trepidation, but….. I rest my case.
For
all those who think there is no way to connect Kirikiri bustop, instead of
keeping your cars at home, follow the secret path created by the prison
officers, but you know what to do on arriving the gate. This passage takes you
into Prison barracks and you will come out using the main gate of the barracks.
Then you will be on your way to Olodi Apapa, mile 2 and so on.
About
NGN7000 is being made daily by the boys at the gate. I hope this fund will be
put into proper use.
Our motto still remains... Upgrading Standards.
