BREAK THE BANDWAGON

A bandwagon is a wagon which carries a band in a parade or other entertainment. The phrase “jump on the bandwagon” first appeared in 1848 when a famous comedian used his bandwagon and its music to gain attention for his political campaign appearances. His success with this new invention drove other politicians to strive for a seat in the
bandwagon. Their goal was to be associated with his success. Years later, “jump on the bandwagon” became a derogatory term. It means to associate yourself with a seemingly successful or fashionable person or thing without considering what you associated yourself with.

It’s hard to stand apart from the crowd but that is exactly what you should do when your conscience says so. Your goal is not just to be different; it is to please God no matter what others may do. Your strength of character will be put to a test as they persuade or else threaten you to join their evil act. Shun the bandwagon and obey the Spirit of God. You will be blessed for your conviction.

Challenge: today’s mighty oak was yesterday’s nut.

Prayer: Lord, give me a tender heart filled with rock-solid convictions.
