On Thursday 10th July 2014, Bovas Oil Depots
management confirmed reports of a threat issued by Boko haram to blow up all
the Oil Depots in Kirikiri town. Since then there have been certain executed measures
to check and counter any of such attacks.
A barricade was set up at Mosheshe Industrial with the
Community Development Associationtask forces taking weekly shifts to guard the
gates round the clock. Scanners and bomb detectors were to be purchased but so
far only one scanner is in use. No bomb detector has been purchased as was
promised by the Oil Depots.
Kirikiri News gathered that Swift Oil, Fatgbems, Bovas Oil
and Techno Oil Depots securities have been re-deployed to join forces with the
other CDA taskforce men at the Mosheshe gate. Their presence may be quite
flamboyant as heaps of 25 rims tires were mounted on both sides of the
barricade and more heavily built men.
“There is an ongoing work in progress to build a more secure
and permanent barricade gate here and it will be completed soon” said the Chief
Security Officer CDA1, Mr. Yomi.
Kirikiri News also discovered that there was a controversial
protest carried out by the oil depots securities which led to their re-deployment
to the outer gates. However, it is still in line with their job specification.
“If Boko haram threats manifests, the Oil Depots and the CDA
taskforce will be blamed” a resident expressed.
