The Nigerian prison
service barracks, Kirikiri town is a domicile where so many activities take
place. Activities such as: training, exercise, study, services, parties, above
all serving sentences. However, a portion of the barracks is dedicated to
serving sentences while the rest are for all the above mentioned activities.
There was a
school called Immaculate Heart which was close to one of the halls in the
barracks. This hall was popular among the Kirikiri town people. They held most
social gatherings there. This hall is one of the oldest halls in Kirikiri town
and has been in a decapitated state for a long time, but not minding its state,
the Sisters Fellowship International (SFI) and others still used it as a
meeting point.
The hall is
being renovated and it is beside the just concluded state of the art, and
formidable new hall built by the Nigerian Prison Service. This new hall can
contain more than 200 people if well-arranged and beside it, is a carefully
placed lawn tennis court. Perhaps, according to speculations, an officer’s mess
might be the primary idea behind this development.
If finally
renovated, it might not be used for social and organizational gatherings
because there are more halls in the barracks that could accommodate such. Do
not be sad fellow k-townies; those other halls are up to standard as series of
programs will have already been held in those halls. The hall is close to the
Kirikiri prison/ Kirikiri town stadium.
More
developments will occur around the prison barracks and it is for good. Kirikiri
prison is also experiencing upgrade as it is in Kirikiri town and its upgrade
course is infectious.
Our motto remains…Upgrading Standards.
