PRISON AND NAVY CLASH IN KIRIKIRI TOWN

When two elephants fight the ground they say suffers. This happened to be a proverb that added a plus to its authenticity today in Kirikiri town.

A personnel serving with the Nigerian Navy and a personnel serving with the Nigerian
Prison had a disagreement which resulted in bloodshed and loss of time and energy. The incident which caused chaos among Kirikiri town residents was not a pocket-sized issue as high ranked officers of both parties had to resolve this pressing matter.

It all started few minutes when the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) left NNS Ojo Cantonment Navy town this evening through the Prison gate. While naval personnel’s of his convoy were clearing the road for the CNS as protocol demands in the military, the naval personnel’s on duty on the link bridge of Kirikiri town got the information that the CNS is approaching the bridge. They immediately began to halt cars going to and fro in order for the CNS to pass. While concentrating on protocol, a bike carrying a certain man was asked to wait because the CNS’s convoy drew closer but he didn’t comply. As the naval personnel attempted to use force, the bike man dodged and his belt his passenger.

The passenger was aggravated at the action the naval personnel and decided to strike back, this contemptible act however resulted into a fight which left the passenger who was later identified as a prison personnel bleeding all over the place. The prison personnel was on mufti at the time of the brawl.

The prison personnel realized that he was close to his barracks, and then he bolted there for safety and back up and asked his colleagues at the gate to put up the shutters after explaining what happened.

The gate of the Nigeria Prison Service Barracks was shut down to further movement which resulted in a gridlock on every road in Kirikiri town. Generals of the navy, captains, lieutenants, notable men and good citizens of Nigeria who were returning from work were subjected to 2 hours of waiting for the matter to be resolved.

Over 20 tankers loaded with petroleum and trailers carrying containers also were in the calamitous traffic jam. This incident reminded the residents of Kirikiri town of the last fracas between the navy and the prisons which resulted in death as this is not the first of its kind.
Almost every resident came out to observe and witness the situation, many people tried to take pictures but their phones were smashed by personnel’s.

The dispute was resolved amicably by top ranked officers of both parties and the gate was opened at 7:30 pm. This jeopardy however started at 5:20 pm.

The prison personnel has been hospitalized as he sustained multiple injuries as many eye witnesses presume his hands might be amputated. The naval personnel however was nowhere to be found at the time of resolve, but was later called to order by a senior officer.

Misunderstandings can be avoided only if wisdom is applied. The matter will be resolved officially as they are all uniform men.

Our motto remains… Upgrading Standards.
