WOMAN HANGS HERSELF IN LAGOS

There was confusion on Bankole Street, Isheri, Ojodu Berger, Lagos State, on Friday morning as residents woke up to the gory sight of a woman who was believed to have hanged herself.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the yet-to-be-identified woman, who wore a black sweater and orange skirt, hanged herself using a blue rope under a pear tree.
Our correspondent, who also visited the scene of the suicide, gathered from the terrified residents that the woman was not living on the street. But a resident, who craved anonymity, said the woman was noticed on Thursday afternoon roaming the street and whispering to herself like a mentally challenged person.

The resident added that the woman had appeared sick from her countenance.
It was further gathered from some landlords of the Isheri Oke Community Development Association, under whom the street falls, that the incident had been reported to the Isheri Police Division.

Efforts to reach the traditional ruler in the area, Chief Albert Bankole, for comments proved abortive as he declined to speak on the issue.
As of the time of filing this report, none of the onlookers and passers-by could give the name, address or relatives of the woman.

The General Manager/Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Femi Osanyintolu, said the case was reported through the Lagos State emergency call centre around 8.30 on Friday morning.
