Olofin was told that he had to make, ebo etetu, a sacrifice of appeasement. This was what Ifa prescribed when it was consulted to save the life of Olofin’s son. For this, Olofin was asked to produce two hundred bush rats, two hundred pieces of fish, two hundred of many other items, along with one sheep and a hen. In the end, all the Babalawo declared that the only one of them competent to offer this sacrifice was Orunmila, the head of all the Babalawo.

Olofin had no choice but to go with them to Orunmila.

When Orunmila set eyes on Olofin, he denounced vehemently. “Olofin, you ingrate! Had I not offered countless sacrifices to prevent misfortunes in your life, to ensure that the predictions of good fortune come to pass and those of bad fortune averted? Had I, Orunmila, not taken care of your wellbeing and that of your family, as well as the whole town over which you rule, the many times you have requested this of me? Yet when my son was dangerously sick and I could not afford to consult Ifa so that the boy would not die, what did you do when I came to you for assistance, Olofin? Hern? Olofin! Olofin, in his shame remained speechless, so Orunmila continued.
